The things you do during lockdown :)

I have a background in teaching in the primary and tertiary sectors and have been a learning facilitator in ECE, primary and secondary contexts.  I have facilitated across a broad range of learning areas and pedagogies since 2003. I am MoE accredited to deliver centrally funded PLD. I previously worked as the MoE National Senior Advisor for the Technology learning area and now am part of the team of facilitators working with the new digital technologies strands of the Technology learning area in NZC. I have also worked as a project leader for the Incredible Years (teacher) workforce development project.

I love growing school capabilities in digital technologies; developing digital fluency as well as the computational thinking and designing and developing digital outcomes strands of the technology learning area. My Masters' research was around using blended (distance and face to face) learning, so I can support you well through virtual strategies. This has been particularly useful when working with schools during the Covid-19 Lockdown.

I have a strong history with inclusive education; working with Senco teachers and support staff across whole CoLs.  I also have developed networks, and built collaborative, inquiry-based schools and clusters.  I have recently worked as a Senco in a large intermediate school.

A large chunk of my work has been with Special Schools; developing digital strengths alongside building a numeracy framework that developed 'working within level one of NZC' concepts.  This is where my interest in using outdoor classrooms really grew.

I am a learner; I make significant use of current research and have a strong network of highly informed movers and shakers in my fields of expertise. My work will always be future-focused, strengths-based and learner-centred and will be developed with you around your needs.

Some of the skills and knowledge that have shaped my current way of working:
  • Cultural knowledge and tikanga being used to develop meaningful learning
  • Developing your school's Localised Curriculum
  • Strengthening distance/remote teaching and learning capability across your school community (children, teachers, parents)
  • Support Staff PLD
  • Inclusive Practice
  • Distance Teaching
  • Digital Technologies (CT & DDDO)
  • Digital Fluency
  • Student Agency
  • Teacher and Student Inquiry
  • Visible Learning - Hattie
  • Meaningful Assessment for all students
  • Whole school approaches. Child-centred, future-focused thinking, technology, environmental sustainability, etc.
  • Principal and teacher appraisal
